What steps can I take to Reduce My

Organization's Energy Consumption:

  • Technology: Let's talk about the elephant in the room! As many are aware, AI now uses more energy than ever. That said, we're likely not going back now that we love the efficiencies it offers and due to lack of regulation. It's already inherent in most search engines and taking over administrative roles at many companies. When considering energy usage, we can invite ourselves to be thoughtful, not creating unnecessary searches, tasks, and especially images and videos. We can be prepared with our prompts and descriptions, being very intentional, as we use it. The good news is, we know there are new energy sources (already available but not widely used due to monetary policies), that eventually will be implemented to power AI!

  • Technology: Also, an often unknown, but a very common high energy use is streaming videos. The more we stream at the higher the quality, the more energy we use. However, the good news is, you can lower the quality of your video stream in the settings button down in the right hand corner of your vision, to reduce impact.

  • On-site Conferences / Events: When offering events or conferences at hotels or other sites, work with the staff and management team to reduce impact. For example, have pitchers of water at dining tables instead of water at each setting, since many members/clients do not drink water or may not show. Invite members/clients to participate in the eco-friendly moves such as by reminding them to bring their own re-usable water bottles. Avoid the extra printing of materials and support your members/clients in following the content digitally.

  • Lunch/Coffee TIme: Idling at a pick up window is using excess fuel (carbon) being burned; when possible, go into the store, which is also physical movement! Ask delivery drivers to please not idle in front of your location when they're going through their packages in the truck.

Ask for the Eco-Assessment Package to see where your org's footprint is greatest & how to implement new controls.
